Let me give you stuff!!!!

Don't know if anyone still checks this BUT....

For one of my classes this semester we made postcards and business cards and sent them to print at a professional printing press! So now I have something like 150 postcards and business cards sitting around and I don't know what to do with them!

So if anyone wants, I will GLADLY send some your way! Just let me know what your current address is (pretty sure probably everyone has moved around since last time...)

Here are some examples:
(We made them in layers: CMY, CMYK, CMYK + PMS metallic silver! Then we turned press plates on and off for fun!)
Oh yeah, the project had to be about "binary oppositions"

And here is the business card I made. I didn't use it as a business card, I thought instead I'd make something you could leave behind for people once you fill it in with whatever you want to say to them (like "Thank You Taxi Driver, You are very friendly" or "I hate you, jerk, you are a horrible person")

OK LET ME KNOW HERE OR EMAIL ME IF YOU WANT ANY!!!! HOPE EVERYONE IS DOING GOOD!

Help with a Project?

Hi Aesthetics Abroad,

It's been a long while since I've posted on here, but I'm back & ready with some questions for you!

I'm currently working on a research-based publication about the globalization of language and it's relationship to design. I though it would be great to get all your views on the subject. I have some questions about your work and your practice as designers working in both native and non-native languages, etc. If any of you would like to participate, I would greatly appreciate it!

The questions are listed below incase you're interested. If you find skype or other media is preferable to the written word, that's great too! You can emaail me responses at aroche@mcad.edu

Thanks so much for helping out!

-Alexandra Roche

What is your native language, and what languages have you designed in?

In what country were you born, and where have you lived since?

Why do you chose to work in languages other than your native language?

Who is your audience for these pieces (in terms of language-speakers)?

How do you approach the problem of designing in another language?

Do you view typography as form, line, and weight, or rather as a message?

How has globalization affected your practice?

Do you approach a different language design in the same way you approach regular language project?

Why do you design in your non-native language?

Do you think there are ethics involved in working in a specific language?

Would you design in a foreign language you didn't know?

How much of an understanding of a foreign language would you say you must have in order to design in it?

How has globalization affected your practice?

Is it important to work in this second language? Why or why not?

Do you ever do work in multiples, formatting the same design for different languages?

How does this change the design form language to language?

How do you view the future of design dealing with globalization or global language?

Can you talk about a specific piece: the process, language, audience, etc.?

Inspiration!

Harmen Liemburg lectured at my school a few days ago and it was really great, it made me want to go out and make things!

Then yesterday one of my classes went on a field trip to the Museum of Russian art to see an absolutely beaaaauutifullll exhibit of postage stamps. It was fascinating to see and made me think about work within a whole new context.

Anyone else do/see/make anything interesting or inspiring recently?

VERY LATE but....

a happy new year to you all!!! Hooray,
I guess everyone's being REALLY busy at the moment!!

I've had to deal with a lot of personal issues in the last year and a half, unfortunately, but now everything seems to be solved and I can finally focus on my studies!!!...and yes, it's thesis time. So basically I am doing all the works that I have missed in the last year and a half and also doing my thesis in 3 months!! I hope I will survive!

I hope we can get some works going again...what happened to the old one? I think I was the last one to get it, and it took me a while but I got it done, and sent it to Julie...did it get lost on the way?! I'm gonna look through my harddrive for the pic I took of the work, since I didn't really get it posted yet!

Yay yay yay.

The first post of the year :)
